      • Dress code: St. Peter’s Basilica is an active place of worship. Shoulders and knees must be covered for both men and women. Entry may be denied without appropriate attire.
      • Security screening: All visitors must pass through airport-style metal detectors. Large bags, luggage, sharp objects, sprays and glass containers are not permitted.
      • Accessibility: Most areas of the Basilica are accessible, but the Vatican Grottoes include steps and uneven surfaces. If you have mobility concerns or use a wheelchair, please contact us in advance so we can arrange the most suitable experience.
      • Strollers: Standard strollers are generally allowed inside the Basilica but may not be permitted in the Grottoes. Lightweight or foldable strollers are recommended.
      • Important notice about the Vatican Grottoes:
        The Vatican Grottoes may be closed without prior notice in case of papal or liturgical ceremonies, official Vatican events, extraordinary maintenance, high visitor traffic or security reasons. Access is therefore not guaranteed on every date.
